Duellman and Trueb (pg. 395) note that although the primordia of this nerve are in the 1st and 2nd spinal nerves, this nerve contains fibers representing the hypoglossal nerve in amniotes and is thus considered one of the cranial nerves.
Nerve that leads to the muscles of the tongue (mm geniohyoideus, genioglossus, hyoglossus, and rectus cervicis) and has both sensory and motor functions.
